15, including OC, injured in Hefajat-police clash in Munshiganj

15 people, including the officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan Police Station, were injured in a clash between police and Hefajat-e-Islam activists in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj this noon during the dawn-to-dusk hartal enforced by Hefajat-e Islam.
Abdul Momen, superintendent of Munshiganj police, said five policemen, including Sirajdikhan OC SM Jamal Uddin, were injured in the incident.
Md Kamruzzaman, inspector (investigation) of Sirajdikhan Police Station, told our local correspondent over phone that he, Sirajdikhan OC SM Jamal and Constable Shahin are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Toufik Rouf, resident medical officer (RMO) of Sirajdikhan Upazila Health Complex, said 10 people received treatment from the hospital.
Witnesses said the clash ensued as police foiled the blockade of Hefajat activists in Nimtola area on Dhaka-Mawa road and dispersed them.

Later, agitating Hefajat activists attacked policemen in Boroshikarpur and Shulpur areas near Nimtola around 12pm. Police fired tear shells and blank shots to bring the situation under control.
Hefajat activists threw brick chips on the law enforcers. Several shops were damaged and three motorcycles were torched during the clash, added witnesses.
Mohammad Obaidullah Kashemi, president of Sirajdikhan upazila unit Hefajat-e-Islam, claimed that over 100 Hefajat activists were injured after police and Awami League men attacked them and the injured men took treatment from different hospitals.
He also said his father Allama Abdul Hamid suffered bullet injuries and was taken to a private hospital in Dhaka.
