Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) served a notice to eight people including a deputy secretary, additional police superintendent, two senior assistant secretaries asking them to give their statement over forgery in land acquisition in two projects in Cox’s Bazar.

The notice was issued on different dates in May and June this year.

The officials discharged their duties as project director, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) and land acquisition officer when the forgery took place, ACC source said.

A copy of the notice of which The Daily Star obtained had the name of Ashraful Afsar, currently working at Science and Technology Ministry as deputy secretary. Previously he was additional deputy commissioner (revenue) of Cox's Bazar district admin which oversaw the whole land acquisition process.

The notice was also served to Md Moniruzzaman, currently working as additional police super of Khagrachhari district. He was the project director for building an administrative office for PBI in Cox's Bazar.

The officials who were served the ACC notice also include Shah Jahan Ali Sarkar, senior assistant secretary at Ministry of Water Resources. He worked as additional deputy commissioner of Cox's Bazar district and A H M Mahfuzur Rahman, currently posted as additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet. He was Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila.

The others are two former land acquisition officers who are now posted as upazila nirbahi officer of Patuakhali Sadar and Laxmipur Sadar upazilas and two deputy assistant officers of land office in Cox's Bazar.

The Daily Star recently ran a story on land acquisition forgery in PBI project where Tk 29 crore was given to 15 fake owners.
