Demanding cancellation of the directive to carry passengers at half capacity and the 60 percent hike in fares, the Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti today asked transport authorities to allow passengers according to each vehicle's seat capacity while following strict health guidelines.

Apart from this, they have demanded to cancel the decision to stop motorcycle ride sharing and to strengthen the monitoring system in public transports to check whether drivers, passengers and transport workers are following health guidelines.

The organisation issued a statement in this regard today.

Mozzammel Haque, secretary general of the organisation said most of the public transport are not maintaining health guidelines despite increasing 60 percent fares.

The government's sudden decision brought woes for common people, the statement reads.

"Passengers and transport workers got into fights on every route due to the sudden increase of fares," it said. If lockdown or a general holiday is not declared in the country, he asked concerned transport authorities to take passengers according to their seats after following strict hygiene rules.
