‘Enforce law strictly in preventing fraudulence of middlemen during sending workers abroad’

Expatriates' Welfare Minister Imran Ahmad today urged law enforcers to rigorously enforce the law in preventing fraudulence of middlemen while sending workers abroad for employment.
He termed the act of fraud in the name of providing job abroad as human-trafficking and said the government has taken a zero-tolerance policy in this regard.
The minister said this while inaugurating a two-day workshop for executive magistrates on conducting mobile court to prevent crimes related to labour migration at Prabashi Kalyan Bhaban in the capital, said a press release.
International Organisation for Migration (IOM) organised the workshop in which some 32 executive magistrates from Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions have been participating.
Later, a similar workshop for 58 more executive magistrates will be held, said the release.
Addressing the event, Imran Ahmad said the country's economy is largely dependent on remittance sent by migrant workers and that inflow of inward remittance has been on the rise.
Presided over by Secretary Ahmed Munirus Saleheen of the ministry, the event was also addressed by Director General of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training Shamsul Alam and IOM Bangladesh Chief of Mission Giorgi Gigauri, added the release.
