India hopes Bangladesh will address Hefajat’s violent protests during recent Modi visit

Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi expressed confidence that the Bangladesh government would address the challenges posed by protests of Hefajat-e-Islam during and after the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"As far as the violence is concerned, we have always been against fundamentalism and extremism. We are confident that the Bangladesh government will address the challenge," Bagchi said when asked about protests of Hefajat-e-Islam carried, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

"The Indian prime minister's visit to Bangladesh had facilitated significant decisions to reinforce the legacy of 1971 and this is in furtherance of India-Bangladesh bilateral cooperation," he said while speaking at the weekly virtual media briefing.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Bangladesh on March 26 and 27 to take part in the twin celebrations of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
