Mobile courts crack down on restriction violators in Savar, Khulna

Mobile courts in Khulna and Savar today conducted drives and handed down sentences and fine for those found violating the restrictions placed by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.
In Khulna, a mobile court sentenced two people to two days in jail for violating restriction rules in Paikgachha upazila on the first day of the seven-day restrictions imposed by government to curb Covid-19 spread.
The court led by Paikgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer ABM Khalid Hossain Siddiqui handed down the sentence to Abdus Samad and Abbas Ali at Zero Point in the municipality area, our local correspondent reports.
Samad and Abbas were sentenced as they allowed gatherings in front of their shops and did not follow instructions when they were asked to close their shops, said Executive Magistrate Khalid Hossain.
Meanwhile, many shops beside the main road were seen closed in the city but several business establishments at lanes and by-lanes were open.
Easy-bikes and rickshaws were seen plying on the roads at Dakbungalow, Shibbari intersection, Moilapota, Notunrasta, Rupsha ghat, Gallamary, and Shantidham intersection.
In Savar, another mobile court fined a shopping complex, a bus, a restaurant, and four pedestrians for violating rules in the morning today.
Abdullah Al Mahfuz, assistant commissioner (land) and the executive magistrate of the mobile court, said that during the drive a shopping complex -- Lalon Tower -- in Hemayetpur was fined Tk 4,000 for being open defying lockdown directives.
A restaurant, Suruchi, in the Savar Bazar bus stand area was also fined Tk 3,000 for serving people food inside its premises, he said.
A bus of Shyamoli Paribahan was fined Tk 500 for plying on the road and four pedestrians were fined Tk 800 each for not wearing masks.
"We will continue this drive during the lockdown period," he informed.
