Number of diarrhoea patients on the rise in Bagerhat; acute crisis of saline at hospitals

The number of diarrhoea patients in Bagerhat has increased alarmingly with more than 600 treated in different hospitals of the district in the last week.
More than 200 patients are still hospitalised as of today, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
"Due to extreme heat and drought and drinking contaminated water due to drying up of pond water, the outbreaks of waterborne diseases have increased," said Dr KM Humayun Kabir, civil surgeon of Bagerhat.
In the meantime, an acute crisis of saline is going on at the hospitals which the authorities acknowledged and said was due to the sudden increase in the number of patients. However, they are trying their best so that patients do not have to buy drugs from outside.
"Our hospital is admitting 20-25 patients every day against a capacity of only four beds. And the saline crisis is due to the sudden increase in patients," said Md Mirajul Karim, resident medical officer of Bagerhat Sadar Hospital.
