South Korean Ambassador Lee Jang-keun today handed over to Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen a frame containing copies of historical documents that demonstrate the country's official recognition of the newly independent Bangladesh on May 12, 1972.

The handover ceremony was held at the State Guest House Padma today.

After the event, Foreign Minister Momen recalled the friendly relations between the two countries and sought to further boost it.

"South Korea became a developed country and we have a lot to learn from them. One of them is how to quickly implement projects in time," he told reporters after the meeting with the South Korean Ambassador.

He called on the South Korean envoy to invest in the IT sector in Bangladesh that involves some six lakh IT professionals. Besides, he also requested the envoy to recruit more Bangladeshi workers.

South Korea is one of the first countries that invested in the country's RMG sector, he said.

Ambassador Lee Jang-keun expressed his sincere gratitude for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's commitment to send a video message for the upcoming 2021 P4G Seoul Summit on May 30-31, 2021, said a statement of the South Korean embassy in Dhaka.

P4G (Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030) is a global platform aimed at delivering inclusive and transformative solutions to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.

The Summit will be the first multilateral event on environment to be hosted by Korea and will serve as a stepping stone for several important climate-related summits this year including the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November. More than 60 world leaders including Prime Minister Hasina will participate in the Summit.

Furthermore, Ambassador Lee underscored the importance of Bangladesh's participation in the 2021 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial to be held in Seoul on December 7-8, 2021.

Recognizing Bangladesh's active support for the UN peacekeeping operations as the largest contributor of peacekeeping forces, Ambassador Lee invited Minister Momen to the upcoming Ministerial.
