EWU holds Nehreen Khan Memorial lecture

The lecture was organised in the memory of a former student of EWU, Nehreen Khan, late daughter of Dr Akbar Ali Khan, former adviser to a caretaker government.

There is no freedom to write whatever one likes as an "invisible shackle" is placed around the writer, said Salina Hossain, a literary writer and president of Bangla Academy.

Due to lack of freedom, writers around the world have been tortured and oppressed for ages, she said at the 4th "Nehreen Khan Memorial Lecture" at East West University (EWU) at Aftabnagar, Dhaka on July 26, according to a press release.

In her speech "Writer's Journey in the World of Literature", Selina highlighted the points to be considered by a writer in the field of writing.

The lecture was organised in the memory of a former student of EWU, Nehreen Khan, late daughter of Dr Akbar Ali Khan, former adviser to a caretaker government.

Selina Hossain, a recipient of "Swadhinata Padak" and "Ekushey Padak", was honoured at the programme.

Syed Manzur Elahi, chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU; Prof Dr MM Shahidul Hassan, vice-chancellor; Prof Dr Fakhrul Alam, former pro-VC; AZM Shafiqul Alam, treasurer; and Ariful Islam, faculty member of EWU, also spoke.

Dr Akbar Ali Khan was present at the lecture, along with faculty members, students, and other dignitaries.
