‘Read more about Bangabandhu to adopt his ideals’

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a discussion titled "National Mourning Day 2022: Academic Tributes to the Father of the Nation" on the campus on August 16.
The event was as part of a series of programmes marking National Mourning Day, said a press release.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain, who was present as the chief guest, said the youths must adopt Bangabandhu's principles in their hearts. In order to do that, today's youngsters must read more and delve into the life and work of the Father of the Nation, he said.
A Matin Chowdhury, a freedom fighter and a member of IUB board of trustees, who chaired the event, shared his 1971 experience about how he and thousands of youths joined the Liberation War in response to Bangabandhu's call.
IUB Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan said the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family was in effect the killing of democracy.
Wasi Chowdhury, a student of marketing at IUB, spoke on behalf of the students to pay homage to the Father of the Nation.
IUB pro-VC Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan, Prof Imtiaz A Hussain from its Department of Global Studies and Governance, Prof Ahmed Ahsanuzzaman from the Department of English and Modern Languages, and School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Dean Prof Taiabur Rahman also spoke.
IUB trustees Md Tanveer Madar and A Quaiyum Khan were also present, among others.
At the event, prices were handed over to the winners of a quiz competition on Bangabandhu that the IUB Library organised earlier.
