Rotary launches climate change project

The Rotary Club of Dhaka Mavericks in association with Brac University, SOJAG and Rotary Club of Dhaka has embarked upon a climate challenge project with the local community of Shailan, Dhamrai.

The Rotary Club of Dhaka Mavericks in association with Brac University, SOJAG and Rotary Club of Dhaka has embarked upon a climate challenge project with the local community of Shailan, Dhamrai.

The "Zero Carbon Pre-fabricated Bamboo Building", a British Council gender project, has been braved completely by the girl students of the Shailan Surma High School at Dhamrai, said a press release.

The design is based on Architect Yasmin Laris "Octa-Green" model developed by female architects and students of Brac University.

The Shailan community participated in the initiative spontaneously and whole heartedly.

The project has generated a first-of-its kind campaign, enthusiasm and energy towards pre-fabricated building structure with indigenous materials, skill and development of women in building structure and participatory approach towards addressing climate challenge.

The girl students completed training workshop and developed a break-out space for them.

Famous bamboo and earth artisan Badshah Mia have trained and supervised the girls of Shailan Surma High School.

This has been launched at the school by Benajir Ahmed MP, Tasmima Hossain, editor of The Daily Ittefaq; Rtn Nasreen Subhan, head of education project, Rotary Club of Dhaka Mavericks; Rtn Momtaz Chowdhury, awardee of UN Rotary International People of Action 2021-2022 Champion of Girls' Empowerment Joint Secretary Rotary Club of Dhaka Mavericks; Rtn Eng Saumitra Mutsuddi of Rotary Club of Dhaka Mavericks; Abdul Matin, chairperson SOJAG; Mahbub Shaheed, chairperson of Shailan Surma High School; and Md Abdul Mannan, headmaster of the school.
