Finish graft case trial against Nur Hossain in 6 months: HC
The High Court today scrapped a lower court order that exonerated Nur Hossain, a death row convict of Narayanganj 7-murder case, from corruption charge.
The HC also directed the lower court to finish the trial proceedings of the case against Nur Hossain in next six months.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam came up with the order following a review petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against the lower court order.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Aminuddin Manik told The Daily Star that the then now-defunct Bureau of Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Narayanganj Sadar Police Station on October 30, 2002 against Nur Hossain on charge of misappropriating Tk 17.65 lakh from the state fund though 11 cheques in the name of fake projects. He was the chairman of the Siddhirganj union parishad in 1999.
A special court in Narayanganj exonerated Nur Hossain from the case on January 30, 2013 on the ground that the case was filed late.
Then ACC filed a review petition with the HC on December 7, 2014 challenging the Narayanganj court order, DAG Manik added.
