Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed her grave condemnation to the suspected Islamist-inspired attack near Britain’s parliament that left at least five people dead and around 40 injured.

In a press statement, Hasina also conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family members of those who were killed and injured in the incident.

"It is with a deep sense of shock that we have learnt about the recent terrorist attack in the vicinity of British Parliament," the premier said in the statement, adding, "We strongly condemn their despicable act. This act of cowardice is a blot in the conscience of humanity."

On the other hand, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia strongly denounced and protested the attack.

In a statement, Khaleda said, terrorists have now built an international network and are trying to establish a reign of terror across the world in a dangerous way.

"It's incredible and disgusting the way common people's blood is being shed due to their desperate game with death," she said.

She expressed her deep shock over the casualties in the attack and conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family members and the people of the UK.

Five people were killed and about 40 injured in London after a car ploughed into pedestrians and a suspected Islamist-inspired attacker stabbed a policeman close to Britain's parliament.

The dead, in what police called a "marauding terrorist attack," included the assailant and the policeman he stabbed.

The other three victims were among those hit by the car as it sped across Westminster Bridge before crashing into railings just outside the parliament.
