Country sees lowest daily Covid deaths in 51 days

The health directorate has reported that 152 people died of Covid-19 in 24 hours ending at 8:00am yesterday, which is the lowest daily death count in the last 51 days.
One hundred and fifteen people were reported dead on June 30, shows data from the Directorate general of health Services (DGHS).
The data also shows that coronavirus deaths this week, ending yesterday, dropped by 27 percent compared to the previous week. The numbers are 1,155 and 1,577 respectively.
During the same period, the number of Covid-19 cases has also declined by around 35 percent. A total of 44,976 patients tested positive for the viral infection this week compared to 68,822 the previous week.
In the 24 hours, a total of 3,991 people tested positive after 23,882 samples were tested. The positivity rate was 16.71 percent -- the lowest in more than two months.
The positivity rate is an important parameter to measure the level of virus transmission. According to the World Health Organization, the transmission will be considered under control if the positivity rate remains stagnant below five percent continuously for at least two weeks.
After this wave of Covid-19 started from the second week of March this year, the positivity rate started galloping and reached the highest 33 percent on July 24.
Since August 2, this rate has been going down steadily.
With the latest counts, the total number of deaths due to Coivid-19 rose to 25,143 while the number of confirmed cases to 14,57,194.
In the 24 hours, 7,666 patients recovered from their illnesses, raising the number of recovery cases to 13,55,421, which is more than 93 percent of all cases detected so far.
Of the yesterday's deceased, 69 were males and 51 were females.
Of them, 40 were in Dhaka division followed by 27 in Chattogram, 15 in Khulna, 13 in Sylhet, seven in Mymensingh, six in Barishal and three in Rangpur division.
On March 8 last year, the DGHS reported the first three cases while the first death was reported on March 18.
