The Goddess with the Clay Feet

Fall is a pleasant time to be in Bangladesh. There's no sweating profusely, and if you're in Dhaka, you won't be cold either – the nip in the air is just right.

Fall is a pleasant time to be in Bangladesh. There's no sweating profusely, and if you're in Dhaka, you won't be cold either – the nip in the air is just right. The short-lived shiuli (night/coral jasime) makes the early morning (or night) runs in the park extra nice. In a word, the setting is perfect; perfect for the most celebrated Goddess among Bengali Hindus to arrive.
The celebrations marking her arrival and brief stay, however, are inclusive rather than exclusive – sharbojonin in the true sense. At the core of it all is faith but the manifestations emerge through art, music and more. The cover story in this issue delves deep into this aspect of Durga Puja.

Don't miss out on the celebration. Have an auspicious holiday.
