Nazmul appointed convener of CCDM technical committee

Following the upheaval in relation to the reduction of Towhid Hridoy's suspension which led to Enamul Haque Moni's resignation as convener of technical committee, BCB director Nazmul Abedeen Fahim has been appointed as convener of the technical committee.
"Everything is being referred to the technical committee now and they will analyse everything and all the incidents before giving their decision," umpires' committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu told reporters in Mirpur today.
The umpires' committee had also embroiled itself in controversy by signing a sanction table revision, which allowed Hridoy to play after serving a one-match ban.
Mithu admitted that it was wrong for the umpires' department to do what was under the jurisdiction of the technical committee.
"We made a mistake and the process was wrong. According to the rules, the decision for reducing suspension or wavering suspension can only be made by CCDM or it's technical committee," Mithu admitted.
It was learned that Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, Bangladesh's only ICC Elite Panel umpire, threatened to quit umpiring in domestic cricket over the way Hridoy's suspension was being dealt with.
"Actually not Saikat, umpires were unsatisfied [with developments] so we called them and said that cricket board's stand is zero tolerance and we will abide within the rules of CCDM for the next decision," Mithu had informed.
The Daily Star had already reported that CCDM were waiting on the technical committee's decision before executing Hridoy's suspension. Since the technical committee has a new convener, the process is now likely to be expedited.
Sources have informed that Saikat's decision will hinge on how Hridoy's situation is dealt with. BCB sources have said that cricket operations too may send a letter to Hridoy for his behaviour.
Tension had continued to flare in Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as match officials have sent in a letter to the umpires' chairman on their refusal to sit with match referee Debabrata Paul following heated arguments in match referees' meeting on Saturday.
"All the match referees have handed in a letter and Debobrata Paul has also handed in a letter. The umpires' committee will forward the letter in the next board meeting so that the unwanted situation that happened, does not take place in future. The board directors will decide next course of action," Mithu said.
