Barisal ready to usher in NOBOBORSHO

Preparations for 'Chaitra Sangkranti' and 'Pahela Baishakh' with various colourful programmes are going on full swing in Barisal city, to bid farewell to 1422 and welcome the Bangla New Year 1423 on Pahela Baishakh.

Volunteers of Charukala Barisal are working day and night to organise the traditional 'Mongol Shobhajatra from Barisal City College ground on the morning of April 14, with 'Rakhi Bandhan (friendship ties) ceremony, which would be inaugurated by senior cultural activist Md Yousuf Kalu.

The rally will end at Barisal City College ground, carrying motifs of Bangali folk and daily life.

Charukala Barisal will also arrange a daylong Lokojo Sangskritik Pradarshani (folk cultural exhibition); painting competition at Barisal City College ground focusing on rural life, folk and heritage; selling of different handicraft items and performance of folk songs and dramas like Jari, Sari, Royani and Hoyla.

Chandra Sekher Roy, an organiser, said “Many children across the country are in suffering, and to protect our children, we made a statue of mother and baby with folk motifs.”

Rani Das, another organiser, said the Mongol Shobhajatra is not only a colourful procession; it is a call to revive our traditional customs and folk traditions.

Udichi Barisal will also arrange a separate Mongol Shobhajatra from BM school.

A three-day Baishakh Utsab and Mela (Bangla New Year's fair) and cultural functions are also be arranged by Udichi at BM School ground from Pahela Baishakh.

Shabdaboli Group Theatre at Barisal, Planet World Children Park and local businessmen at Hatkhola will  arrange Chaitra Sangkranti (last day of the Bangla Year) Utsab, Baishakhi Mela, and cultural programmes at various places in the city from  April 13-15.

Kheyali Group Theatre is arranging a cultural 'adda' with and programme

at their office premises to bid farewell and welcome Bangla year from April 13 evening to the early hours of April 14.

Barisal University will also arrange a colorful Mongol Shobhajatra at its campus.

Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Sur Lahori Songeet Biddayaloy, Parantik Songeet Biddayalaya, Anirban Shilpi Gosthi are also holding cultural programme on the morning of Pahela Baishakh to welcome new Bangla year at BM School and Ashwini Kumar Hall in the town.

Gono Shilpi Sangstha will perform cultural shows of folk songs and dramas in front of Barisal Aswani Kumar Hall on Pahela Baishakh afternoon.

Barisal district administration in cooperation with Shilpakala and Shishu Academy, will arrange programmes of discussions and cultural programmes, children and juvenile painting to observe Pahela Baishakh.
