Hundreds of children did colourful sketches of the country's Independence, War of Liberation, genocide as well as Bangladesh's natural beauty at a painting competition held at Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Sangrahashala (art gallery) premises Friday morning.

The art gallery organised the painting competition marking the Independence Day celebrations.

Over 200 children from different educational institutions took part in the competition in four groups.

Earlier, Dr. Bijoy Krishna Banik, deputy keeper of the art gallery inaugurated the competition. Artists Md. Abdur Rob, Mohammad Kazruzzaman and Md. Habibur Rahman, all teachers of Zainul Shishu Charupith were present, among others.

Prizes and certificates of the competition will be distributed through a programme later.
