A grand cultural fiesta
Bengal Foundation, one of the foremost organisations working for Bangla culture, announced a major festival yesterday, the biggest of its kind, in Sylhet starting February 22.
The festival will be titled “Manobik Sadhonay Bengal Sanskiri Utshab Sylhet 2017”. At a press conference yesterday at the seminar hall of Sylhet district administration, Bengal Foundation higher-ups officially briefed about the festival.
Bengal Foundation Chair Abul Khair, advisor Dr. AK Momen, director general Luva Nahid Choudhury and Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Joynal Abedin were present at the press conference.
The 10-day festival is to be held at the AMA Muhith Sports Complex in Sylhet city, and continue till March 3. The festival is dedicated to the memory of Professor Emeritus Abdur Razzak. The festival compound has been divided into many sections named after Hason Raja, Radha Raman, Syed Muztaba Ali and Gurushaday Dutta, the greatest luminaries of the region.
About 383 musicians, dancers, painters, theatre artistes and writers will participate in the festival, as well as another 100 from India and Nepal.
Bengal Foundation will present 14 Bangla films and four plays during the festival, which will also include a book fair, literary discussions, stalls of local delicacies and more.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, along with others, will inaugurate the festival, organisers informed the press.
