International music festival opens at JnU
The music department of Jagannath University (JnU) is holding a two-day international music festival at its central auditorium. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival as chief guest yesterday.
The department honoured renowned classical music exponent Pandit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury on the opening day of the festival. Noted singers -- Shaheen Samad, Sadi Mohammad, Subir Nandi, Shama Rahman, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Samina Chowdhury, Anima Roy, Chandana Mazumdar and Shafi Mondal are also performing at the festival. Artistes from India, China and Indonesia are also performing at the event.
Aside from students of the Music Department of JnU, students of the Department of Music of Dhaka University and Rajshahi University are also presenting their music at the festival. Onima Roy, chairman of the music department,
is the convener of the festival, chairs the festival.
