Kali O Kalam awards young wordsmiths
Kali O Kalam, a reputed literary magazine, recognised three young wordsmiths with the Young Poet and Writer Award 2014, held on Saturday at the Bengal Shilpalay. The winners are – Sakira Parveen in poetry; M Abdul Alim in essay, research and drama and Fatima Rumi in short stories and novels.
The programme commenced with a welcome speech by Luva Nahid Choudhury, director general of Bengal Foundation. Eminent author Samaresh Majumdar attended as chief guest while noted novelist Imdadul Haq Milon was special guest. Chairman of the editorial panel of the magazine, Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman chaired the event, while Bengal Foundation chairman Abul Khair gave a Publisher's address, and Kali O Kalam editor Abul Hasnat delivered vote of thanks.
Dhaka University Professor Bishwajit Ghosh read out the names and brief sketches of the awardees.
Each winner received Taka 1 lakh along with a certificate and a crest. A documentary on the past ceremonies of the event was also shown.
Monthly literary magazine “Kali O Kalam” initiated the award in 2008.
Samaresh Majumdar urged the winning writers to reach out to readers, while Imdadul Haq Milon said the award should be initiated for Bangla writers of both Bangladesh and India.
