Suchitra Sen recalled in her hometown

Suchitra Sen, screen legend of Bangla filmdom was recalled at her ancestral hometown in Pabna on April 6 marking her 85th birth anniversary. A discussion and film festival were held at the Pabna Press Club auditorium on the occasion. The programme was organised by Suchitra Sen Chalachitra Shangshad, Pabna.
President of the organization, Jakir Hossain chaired the programme. Among the speakers were Freedom Fighter Rabiul Islam Rabi, journalist Murshad Subhani, poet Enamul Haque Tagar, secretary of Lalon Parishad Rejaul Karim Moni and educationist Akteruzzaman.
Suchitra Sen's ancestral home in Pabna town was freed on July16, 2014 from Jammmat occupation, fulfilling a long-standing demand of cultural enthusiasts and organisations. Till date the house is locked and no steps have been taken to keep the memories of Suchitra Sen alive though the high court directed the government to take over the house and protect the memory of the silver screen legend, the speakers said.
Meanwhile, a five-day film festival to pay tribute to Sen kicked off in Pabna funded by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Lawmaker of Pabna-5 constituency Golam Faruk Khandaker inaugurated the film festival organised by the district administration of Pabna.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Munshi Md. Moniruzzaman, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pabna said there is no official proposal to set up a memorial to the late actress. Suchitra Sen Smrity Shangrakhhan Parishad will submit a proposal to this effect through the district administration, he added.
Suchira Sen was born on April, 6, 1931 at Bangabari of Sirajganj . She spent her early life in Gopalpur Hem Sagor Len in Pabna town. The legendary actress passed away on January 17, 2014 in Kolkata.
