Timeless works of Nazrul
A heavy downpour Friday evening didn't dissuade dance enthusiasts from Shadhona's 52nd presentation of their monthly programme “Nupur Beje Jaye”. The latest edition, held at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, largely featured the timeless works of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Artistes of four troupes danced to spirited poems and the rendition of love songs composed by Kazi Nazrul Islam. Besides, dancers of Kolkata- based group Parampara performed Bharatanatyam pieces choreographed by Rajdeep Banerjee.
Dancers of Chintak Dance Group from Gaibandha presented a riveting display of dance scores set on some timeless poems and songs like “Karar Oi Louho Kopat”, “Chol Chol Chol”, “Durgomgiri Kantar Moru”, part of “Bidrohi”, “Alga Korogo Khopar Badhon” and “Porodeshi Megh”. Despite a few flaws in a few of their presentations, the dancers captivated the audience in a 40-minuite long performance.
Lubna Marium, artistic director of Shadhona, lauded director Babulal Chowdhury along with other dancers of the troupe at the end of the performance.
Choreographed by M.R.Wasek, dancers of Nandan Kalakenda next took the stage and presented several dance numbers based on some monsoon melodies and love songs including “Khelichhe Jolodebi” and “Rumjhum Rumajhuma Ke Bajaye”. The artistes largely presented experimental pieces set on Nazrul songs recorded with a rather modern music arrangement.
Anik Basu and his group presented dance pieces set on different creations of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
