20th Young Artists' Art Exhibition at Shilpakala

This year, Syed Tareq Rahman won the Fine Art Award for his work “Transformation-4”; Mohammed Fakrul Islam Mazumder received the best award (wood cut) for “Time and Reality”. Sanad Kumar Biswas was the winner in the mixed media category for “An alien or evolving cast of myself”. Md. Tanvir Jalal bagged the best award (oil on canvas) for the work “The Great Possession of a Thoughtful Mind”.

Four honorary award winners -- Niaz Uddin Ahmmed, Md. Joinul Abedin, Jublee Dewan and Akhinoor Binte Ali received prizes for their works -- "Political Cup", "Sensing Darkness", "Attamanthan-3" and "Childhood Memory-5" respectively.

Chief guest Cultural Affairs Secretary Akhtari Momtaz distributed the awards with crests and certificates to the award winners at the ceremony. Eminent artists Rafiqun Nabi and Syed Jahangir were present as special guests while Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of BSA, presided over the session.

The exhibition showcases 227 artworks by 188 artists. The display features watercolour, oil, acrylic, mixed media, graphics, tapestry, woodcut, screen print, ceramics, metal, machinery, glass, paper, installation and more.

Initially, a total of 464 Bangladeshi artists (aged between 21 and 35) submitted 1020 artworks in four categories -- painting, print, sculpture and installation.

A primary selection committee consisted of three artists -- Dr. Mohammad Iqbal, Atia Islam Anne and Nasimul Khabir.

The jury -- seasoned artists Naima Haque, Ranjit Das, Golam Faruk Bebul and Shishir Bhattacahrya -- selected the award winning artworks and the works to be displayed at the exhibition.

The Fine Art Department of BSA has been organising the exhibition biennially featuring works by talented young artists since 1975.

The exhibition will remain open from 11am to 8pm, until June 9 (3pm to 8pm on Fridays), and from 11 am to 6pm during Ramadan.
