“Figuration” opens today at Bengal Gallery
An exhibition of artworks by eminent artists of Bangladesh and India, titled “Figuration”, opens today at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts in the capital's Dhanmondi. The artworks are a selection from the collection of Abul Khair, the Bengal Foundation Chairman and one of the biggest patrons of the arts in Bangladesh.
A total of 30 artworks by 17 artists – (in alphabetical order) Abdus Satter, Aminul Islam, Bijan Choudhury, Haren Das, Kalidas Karmakar, Kazi Abdul Baset, Murtaja Baseer, Nazlee Laila Monsur, Quamrul Hassan, Qayyum Chowdhury, Rafiqun Nabi, Ramkinkar Baij, Rokeya Sultana, Safiuddin Ahmed, Shahid Kabir, Shishir Bhattacharjee and Zainul Abedin.
Bengal Foundation has been contributing consistently to Bangladesh's visual arts, music, theatre and literature for over two decades, and has ventured into crafts and films in recent time. Under Abul Khair's leadership, Bengal Foundation is working to preserve the artistic and commercial aspirations of artists and littereteurs. Collecting and commissioning art is part of the foundation's programmes.
