Graphic art exhibition concludes in port city

A seven-day graphic art exhibition participated by artists from Bangladesh and India drew in visitors at the Artist Rashid Chowdhury Art Gallery of the Institute of Fine Arts of Chittagong University (CU) over the past week.

A seven-day graphic art exhibition participated by artists from Bangladesh and India drew in visitors at the Artist Rashid Chowdhury Art Gallery of the Institute of Fine Arts of Chittagong University (CU) over the past week.

CU vice chancellor Prof. Dr Iftekher Uddin Chowdhury inaugurated the exhibition titled “The Bridge”, jointly organised by the Printmaking Department of Chittagong University's Institute of Fine Arts and Graphic Arts Department of Visva Bharati University in Shantiniketan, India last Wednesday.

Fifty three teachers and students from both universities participated in the exhibition. Of them, eight teachers were from Visva Bharati University and four from CU. Sixteen students from Visva Bharati participated in the exhibition while the rest were from CU. The artworks portrayed diverse aspects of nature, human attitudes and relationship, animals and birds and so on.

“Nightmare in Nature”, was one of the titles of the artworks by M Thomas Singh, an Assistant Professor of Graphic Arts Department of Visva Bharati University while the title of artwork of Ajit Shil, an Assistant Professor of Visva Bharati, was “Photographer”.

Meanwhile, another exhibition was held at the first floor by two students of Visva Bharati Graphic Art Department. Janhavi Khemka, a student of Master's and Debangana Paul, a student of fourth year honours, participated in the exhibition under an exchange programme between the two universities.

Janhavi said it was her first exhibition in Chittagong and she felt very happy at the response from viewers. Jasim Uddin, Associate Professor of Printmaking of CU Fine Arts Institute, said the joint exhibition was organised to exchange  perspectives on art.

“The joint exhibition was organised to exchange the knowledge.We will organise more such exhibitions in the future,” said Jasim Uddin, associate professor Printmaking of CU Fine Arts Institute.
