“Films will help fight militancy”

The country's cinema will play a strong role in creating a healthy, democratic country free of militancy, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said yesterday.
The minister was speaking at the inauguration of the Nartional Film Day at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation on Sunday morning. A draft national film policy is also being submitted to the cabinet for approval on this very day, he added.
The National Film Day, organised by the BFDC under the initiative of the Information Ministry, was celebrated with daylong programmes including a celebratory rally, red carpet reception, seminar, film screening, photo exhibition, a fair and a cultural programme.
“Films are intertwined with our lives. They help us remember the past, enjoy the present and dream of a better future,” the minister said in his speech.
Films can play a vital role in creating a path forward from communalism, superstitions and discrimination, the minister said, adding that the 'awakening' of Bangla cinema that has begun recently will gather more pace in coming days.
