James Cameron, the director of "Avatar", plans to give fans an experience that will be unlike anything they have ever seen, as he moves forward on multiple sequels to the 2009 original.

James Cameron, the director of "Avatar", was always looking to use groundbreaking technology to make audiences more immersed in the stories he was telling.

"Avatar" went on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time, thanks in large part to its incredible technological advances in 3D.

Cameron now plans to give fans an experience that will be unlike anything they have ever seen, as he moves forward on multiple sequels to the 2009 original, reports Business Insider.

“I’m going to push…. I’m still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen — with no glasses. We’ll get there,” Cameron said while accepting honorary membership into the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers on October 28, according to Indiewire.

It is likely that Cameron is going to keep a close eye on peoples’ reactions from watching Ang Lee's new movie "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk", which will open in the United States on November 11.

The movie is the first film ever to be shot in 3D in 120 frames per second (the standard is 24 frames per second), and is so advanced that most movie projectors cannot play it in that format, except only two theatres,  one in New York City and the other in Los Angeles.

However, those who have watched it say the visuals are incredible, reports Business Insider.

Whether Cameron will push for the industry to make movies in 120 fps available in more theaters or if he will work on evolving 3D in a lower frame rate will be interesting to see.

"Avatar 2" will open in theaters in 2018.
