Benedict Cumberbatch himself has confirmed that his Marvel superhero character Doctor Strange will be showing up in the next Avengers film, “Infinity War”. In an interview with Empire on the set of “Doctor Strange” (which releases later this year), Cumberbatch was asked what was next for the Sorcerer Supreme. He replied that it was the, “logistical challenge of aligning his schedule with those of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany,” adding, “To get us all together will be quite something. That's why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter.”

Magic is the next frontier in the MCU. Thor flirted with it a bit, but decided it would just be easier to say that magic was hyper-advanced technology, thus keeping Thor in the realm of sci-fi rather than fantasy, which was a sound decision. The trouble with magic is that it defies reality and yet it still needs rules within a story. That can be a tricky balance to pull off, but it's probably going to be essential in dealing with the threat the Infinity Stones pose.

Doctor Strange” opens on November 4,, starring Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. “Avengers: Infinity War”, meanwhile, is scheduled for May 4, 2018.
