Chanchal: An actor on the go
Chanchal Chowdhury, who set on his career as a theatre artiste transfixes viewers whenever he is on the small screen. A National Film Award winner, his film “Moner Manush” directed by Gautom Ghosh propelled him to fame. He recently signed up for a new film. The Daily Star talked to the celebrity about the film and other upcoming assignments.
Tell us about your new film…
Chanchal Chowdhury: Titled “Ainabaji”, the film is directed by Amitab Reza. Here I play the role of Aina, who will be seen studying on film. Although his subject is acting, he is far from being a stage or TV actor. He basically loves acting in real life and experimenting with life. I will take on a new look in the film, which comes on the heels of my last film “Television” made by Mostofa Sarwar Farooqi.
What stage is the film at?
Chanchal Chowdhury: Everything is now on the go. Soon, we will run a pre-shooting assignment. We are doing workshops now. Shooting for the film will finally begin next month. I'm well prepared for my role.
What does your career graph look like?
Chanchal Chowdhury: I've signed up the movie after two years. My first project was “Rupkathar Galpo”, then “Manpura”, “Moner Manush”, “Television” and now “Ainabaji”.
What kept you from doing more films after the release of blockbuster “Monpura”?
Chanchal Chowdhury: The film earned me immense fame and I was recognised with the National Film Award. After its success, I was offered roles in over 100 movies but I rejected all the offers because the plots were weak. Besides, I was not satisfied with the credentials of the filmmaker.
What is your experience of working with Amitab Reza?
Chanchal Chowdhury: He is an acclaimed TVC maker. He was looking for an accomplished actor for a long time. Finally he selected me for a role in his film. It is great to work with him.
You recently appeared in a TVC?
Chanchal Chowdhury: I did an ad under the direction of Mostofa Sarwar Farooki around 10 years ago. Under his direction, this time I've appeared in a TV commercial for Danish Condensed Milk. Apart from this, I did two other TVCs directed by TW Sainik.
Why the low profile in Salahuddin Lavlu's plays?
Chanchal Chowdhury: I last worked with him in the mega serial “Har Kipta “three years ago. After a long break, I'm going to act in his new drama serial this month. Titled “Pear Alir Peari”, the serial is scripted by Brindaban Das and I play the role of Pear Ali.
How many years in the profession?
Chanchal Chowdhury: I've been in theatre for the last 17 years. I started my career with Arannak Nattodal and still keep in touch with the theatre troupe. Currently, I'm busy with TV plays and cinema.
