“I take homemade iftar to my sets”
Sumaiya Shimu, one of the familiar names in the entertainment business, is currently on a tight schedule ahead of Eid. The actor recently took time out of her work commitments to talk to The Daily Star about about Ramadan, iftar, sehri and Eid shopping. Excerpts:
What's your favourite item on the iftar menu?
Shimu: Fruit custard, honey and dates. Of them, I eat dates all the year round. Apart from this, boiled egg and chicken soup is a staple for me. During iftar, I always try to keep safe and nutritious food on the menu.
But does it get difficult to have a nutritious iftar while you're on set?
Shimu: Even when I am having iftar at shooting location, my food is healthy, because I bring homemade food along. I also prepare iftar at home if I can manage time.
Many are eating out at sehri time these days. Have you been on such a night out?
Shimu: I'm yet to have this outside but this time I've a plan to hang out with family and friends for an outdoor sehri sessions.
Where will you spend this Eid?
Shimu: I'll be in Dhaka, but a few days before Eid-ul-Fitr I will travel to Bangkok with my husband. He will go there on an official tour. We will return home three days before Eid.
Since you got married, who does the Eid shopping?
Shimu: After the wedding, it is our first Ramadan. I have plans to go Eid shopping with my husband. But I will shop for him with my sister so that I can give him a surprise.
