“I was destined to be an actress”
Tamalika Karmaker has been in the country's TV scene for a long time. Often seen in TV plays, she also has an active presence in the theatre arena. The artiste recently took on some rapid-fire questions from The Daily Star.
What would you choose to be if not an actress?
Tamalika: I never think about it. I could only be an actress. I think I was destined to be in front of the camera.
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you stand in front of the mirror at the start of your day?
Tamalika: I stand in front of the mirror thinking about my role and schedule for the day.
How do you define beauty?
Tamalika: External beauty is unimportant for me. In my eyes, a good soul makes for a wonderful person.
What would you enjoy doing if you could take time off from your work commitments?
Tamalika: I would travel to the US and have a great time.
What's a long-cherished dream of yours?
Tamalika: I dream of playing Rabindranath's women characters, but that remains a dream.
What would you do if you were told that the world would be destroyed a month from now?
Tamalika: It wouldn't be a too surprising if the world was destroyed because there is so much chaos and environmental problems like climate change. But if it really came to it, I would like to die along with my mother.
Who would you like to be if you were reborn?
Tamalika: I don't believe in rebirth.
What do you think keeps a person alive?
Tamalika: Their work. A sense of purpose is everything.
What is your favourite medium -- theatre, TV plays or cinema?
Tamalika: Definitely theatre. I can't think of my life without theatre.
