Mostofa Sarowar Farooki is one of the foremost directors within the Bangladeshi new wave cinema movement, as well as the pioneer of the avant-garde film project “Chabial.” His presence in contemporary films has marked a range of possibilities in artistic freedom of expression. Today, the director shares with The Daily Star other aspects of his life beyond work.

At what stage is your upcoming film Doob and when will it release?

Farooki: Shooting has gone according to plan, and right now we are in the post-production and editing stage. The release date has not been decided upon yet, and so will have to wait.

What is your ideal way to spend a weekend?

Farooki: Sleeping.

What is your favourite weekend getaway?

Farooki: As sleeping is my ideal way to spend a weekend, my favourite getaway would be my bed.

Which TV show or movie are you watching?

Farooki: I have seen three movies recently; “Right Now, Wrong Then,” by Hong Sang-soo; 'As I Open My Eyes” by Leyla Bouzid; and “Chauthi Koot,” directed by Gurvinder Singh.

What is the best meal you have ever had while on vacation?

Farooki: There are too many bests, really, I cannot decide upon one.

What do you enjoy the most of your daily routine?

Farooki: This depends on my mood at the time, sometimes I most enjoy sleeping, and sometimes I enjoy working more. There are times when I enjoy doing nothing at all, or stalking people on Facebook!

If you could have three wishes, what would they be?

Farooki: I just want one wish to be granted, and that is I always want my wishes to be granted.
