Not only did Taylor Swift set the stage on fire with the opening performance of I Did Something Bad, but the talented artiste won the crystal pyramid for Artist of the Year, the highest honour of the event, along with three other awards. She also broke the AMA record for most wins by a female, bagging a total of 23 accolades, surpassing Whitney Houston's record of 21.

The evening featured performances from Cardi B, who dominated the stage with her hit single I Like It, with J Balvin and Bad Bunny; Carrie Underwood's Spinning Bottles; Panic! At the Disco's cover of the Bohemian Rhapsody, the iconic Queen anthem. Gospel and soul's biggest names featuring Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans, Mary Mary paid tribute to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. Other performers included Benny Blanco with Halsey and Khalid, Ciara, Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Dua Lipa, Ella Mai, Panic! at the Disco, Post Malone featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Shawn Mendes featuring Zedd, and more.
