‘Ganer Jharna Tolay’ concludes today

As a part of Bengal Foundation’s regular cultural initiative, ‘Ganer Jharna Tolay’, a three-day musical festival, which kicked off on June 13, concludes today.

As a part of Bengal Foundation’s regular cultural initiative, ‘Ganer Jharna Tolay’, a three-day musical festival, which kicked off on June 13, concludes today.

Students of Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay performed classical music on the opening day of the festival. The first performance was a group tabla demonstration of tintaal by Shajeeb Biswas, Arpan Chowdhury and Shupantho Majumder. Avijit Kundu was on the harmonium.

Afterwards, the Director General of Bengal Foundation, Luva Nahid Choudhury, presented excerpts of some short videos, which were recently released on the official YouTube channel of Bengal. The series, called, ‘Revisiting the roots’, consists of 37 videos that shed light on gharanas, ragas and other aspects of classical music. Bengal Foundation is working to release the performance videos of the past Bengal Classical Music Festivals by this year.

Inspired from the operations conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Dipankar Dipon, the director of ‘Dhaka Attack’, announced his latest film, ‘Operation Sundarban’ recently. The second set of performance was an esraaj and sarod jugalbandi by Md Raihanul Kabir and Shounak Debnath, supported by Anjan Sarkar on the tabla. The programme ended with a kheyal performance by Supriya Das alongside Prashanta Bhoumik on the tabla and Aviji Kundu on the harmonium.

The musical soiree, ‘Praner Khela’ was held yesterday at the festival. Fahim Hossain Chowdhury performed Rabindra Sangeet after the performance of Nur Razia Momo and Adrina Jamali. The launching ceremony of the audio CD Pranbondhu Bihone, consisting of songs of Radharaman by Chandana Majumder, will be held on the last day. Eminent personality Akramul Islam will unveil the album.
