Musical soiree and discussion at BSA

Cultural organisations Swapnokunri and weekly Purbapor arranged a musical soiree titled Chirayata Bangla Gaan at the National Music and Dance Centre auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on Wednesday.

The event featured performances of Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet, adhunik (modern) numbers and folk songs by both Bangladeshi and Indian singers. Noted Indian singer, Rana Dhanuka rendered Tagore songs and adhunik songs originally recorded by Hemanta Mukherjee and Manna Dey while Ditipriya Dutta presented Tagore songs, Nazrul compositions and adhunik songs. Renowned tabla artiste Manash Chakraborty accompanied the singer duo at the programme.

Bangladeshi artistes -- Swati Karanjai and Atanu Karanjai – together with singers of Swapnokunri performed heart-touching folk melodies at the event.

Prior to the soiree, a short discussion was held at the venue where Secretary to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Shyam Sundar Sikder attended as the chief guest while Narayan Chandra Shil, Director General, Bangladesh Betar, was present as the special guest. Poet and editor of Purbapor, Hasan Mahmud delivered the welcome address.
