A road in the capital’s Khilgaon Chowdhurypara has been named in honour of legendary folk singer and freedom fighter Fakir Alamgir.

A road in the capital's Khilgaon Chowdhurypara has been named in honour of legendary folk singer and freedom fighter Fakir Alamgir.

The news was confirmed by his son Mashuque Alamgir Rajeeb. "We feel extremely overwhelmed to have learned about the news," told The Daily Star. "It is the place where my father had spent most of his life."

The announcement was made in the Dhaka North City Corporation's (DNCC) meeting on Sunday.

One of the most beloved artistes of his generation, Ekushey Padak Awardee Fakir Alamgir lost his battle to Covid-19 on July 23 this year. He was one of the leading exponents of Gono Sangeet in the country. He was also involved in the mass uprising of 1969.
