After its success with a film adaptation of smartphone game “Angry Birds”, Sony Pictures Animation is dipping into mobile game territory once again with plans for a “Fruit Ninja” adaptation.

JP Lavin and Chad Damiani, (“How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack”) are writing the script with Tripp Vinson producing. The major news is that New Line “has landed the film rights to the addictive mobile game app that has become a staple on phones and tablets.”

The script for Fruit Ninja is said to be a family comedy which centers on “a team of misfits who are recruited to become Fruit Ninjas in order to save the world.”

Halfbrick Studios' “Fruit Ninja” is the second-highest-selling iOS game of all time, with over 1 billion downloads.
