JGL drops out of Sandman

Just when it seemed that the new Sandman film was taking strides forward, the almost unimaginable happened. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was signed on to direct, produce, and star in “Sandman”, has dropped out of the film altogether. The actor took to his personal Facebook page to give an explanation for this bold move, much to the chagrin of “Sandman” fans.

In the Facebook post, JGL essentially cites creative differences as the reason for his dropping out of the project. Namely, Levitt believed that he wanted to tell the story of “Sandman” one way, and apparently the powers that be didn't agree. So, rather than make a project that he didn't really believe in, Levitt dropped out all of his varying roles in the film.

“Sandman” is a comic book series published by DC comics' off-company named Vertigo. The story revolves around a character named Dream, aka The Sandman. Rather than a traditional human with super strength or flight, Sandman is the living personification of dreams. After being captured and tortured for 70 years, Sandman returns to the world of dreams in an attempt to rebuilding the Kingdom he knew before his capture. Additionally, Sandman travels to the waking world, splitting his time between the two.
