A fire broke out at the residence of Bengali film star Prosenjit Chatterjee in the Ballygunge area of Kolkata last night. The actor himself “escaped narrowly”.

The incident took place around 10:00pm when Tollywood superstar Prosenjit was chatting with his friends over the tea table, our Kolkata correspondent reports quoting authorities.

They noticed smoke coming from the kitchen and within minutes the fire spread to the house. On information, fire fighters reached the scene and doused the flames in half-an-hour.

Kolkata’s mayor and fire service Minister Shovon Chattopadhyay visited the house. The state’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called up Prosenjit and inquired about his condition.

“Escaped narrowly,” Prosenjit said after thanking the fire fighters, the minister, chief minister and his well wishers. “I was having tea with my friends. God saved us all.”

Minister Shovon Chattopadhyay said the fire service formed an investigation committee to look into the incident and will report on the incident by a week.
