AFD screens Isabelle Antunes' “Happy Rain”
Alliance Française de Dhaka screened Dr. Isabelle Antunes' film “Happy Rain” at its auditorium this week.
“Happy Rain”, a 2015 documentary by Isabelle Antunes, is based on Bangladesh, and was earlier screened at the UN COP 21 Conference on Climate Change in Paris in December 2015.
The work depicts the rise of Bangladesh, and anticipates its emergence as a country of immense possibilities. It widely focuses on Bangladesh's growing economy with a special emphasis on the country's developing fish farming in the low flooded lands. Every year, rivers and streams descending from China, Nepal, Bhutan and India conjoin and overflow, flooding and nourishing Bangladeshi soil throughout the long monsoon months. This collectively opens up many opportunities for the local people in the region.
Isabelle Antunes meaningfully depicts people's lives in her work, setting them against the backdrop of a country in transition.
Dr. Isabelle Antunes was present at the screening of “Happy Rain”. Born in France and brought up in Australia, Dr. Isabelle Antunes worked in Indonesia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, New Caledonia and Pakistan in the Asia-Pacific region; as well as Botswana, Ivory Coast, Morocco and Senegal in Africa.
