Amin Jewellers awards luminaries

Amin Jewellers, a prominent jewellery house, stepped into its 50th year recently. Marking the 50th anniversary of the company, Amin Jewellers arranged an award giving ceremony and cultural programme at the Hall of Fame of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on January 2.

Amin Jewellers, a prominent jewellery house, stepped into  its 50th year recently. Marking the 50th anniversary of the company, Amin Jewellers arranged an award giving ceremony and cultural programme at the Hall of Fame of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on January 2.

Finance Minister AMA Muhit, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Amin Jeweller's chairman and former lawmaker Kazi Sirazul Islam were among the distinguished guests at the programme. Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique was the head of jury. 

Celebrated singer Runa Laila presented songs at the event, while seasoned actress-dancer Aupee Karim danced solo in sync with patriotic songs. Noted singer Fatema Tuz Zohra also performed at the programme which featured musical performances by singers Imran and Porshi, and a group dance by actress-dancer Shokh and a troupe.

Twenty seven luminaries from different fields received Lifetime Achievement Awards. They received three lakh taka cash and a gold medal each.

The awardees include freedom fighter Kakon Bibi, Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, politician Tofael Ahmed, BRAC chairman Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, poet Mahadev Saha, artiste Runa Laila, artist Murtaja Baseer, Dwijen Sharman, artist Mustafa Manwar, Nayakraj Razzak, litterateur Syed Shamsul Haq, litterateur Hasan Azizul Haq, and novelist Humayun Ahmed (posthumous) among others.

The programme also featured documentaries made on the lives of the award recipients.  An audience of 2000 enjoyed the programme.
