Bangladesh Film Directors Association’s Election campaigns in full swing at BFDC

Campaigns for the upcoming election of the Bangladesh Film Directors Association has started at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). The hustle and bustle of the voters and candidates are keeping the venue busy, especially the Board of Directors’ office and canteen premises.

The contesting candidates have been paying multiple visits to BFDC, and are often seen requesting for their peers' support. The applicants had to turn in their nomination papers by March 10.

The total number of voters in this election is 361. Owing to the pandemic, the nominated candidates have turned to social media platforms, phone calls, and BFDC campaigns to ask for votes, replacing the regular campaigns, where the candidates would often visit the voters personally at their residences. The voter visits to BFDC are increasing with every passing day.

The elections will be held on April 2. A total of 3 panels are contesting this time. There are -- Kazi Hayat and SA Haque Alik's panel, Shah Alam Kiran and Safiuddin Safi's panel, and Sohanur Rahman Sohan and Shaheen Sumon's panel. The Bangladesh Film Directors Association has nineteen posts in its committee. Forty-seven candidates have filed nomination papers for the posts, including the president and secretary-general.

Abdul Latif Bachchu is the election commission chairperson. A S M Shafiqur Rahman and B H Nishan have been selected as members of the election commission team. On the other hand, Dewan Nazrul has been made the chairman of the election appeal board.

"We expect the elections to be peaceful and fair," said panel presidential candidate Kazi Hayat. "Our members are well informed and we look forward to positive results."

"Three candidates are vying for the post of secretary-general. I wish the very best to my other competitors," said secretary-general candidate SA Haque Alik.

"Good days for the Bangladeshi film industry will return if we manage to win this election, "said presidential candidate Sohanur Rahman Sohan. "We look forward to gaining stronger ground this time."
