Digital concert ‘I for India’ raises over Rs 52 crores for COVID-19 relief
The home-to-home digital concert, 'I for India', was held recently on Facebook. It has raised over Rs 52 crore in donations for COVID-19 relief in India.
The event featured Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi, Aishwarya Rai, Arjun Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Ayushmann Khurrana, Mindy Kaling, Jack Black, among other actors. Bryan Adams, AR Rahman, Javed Akhtar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, The Jonas Brothers, Sonu Nigam and Arijit Singh among other musicians took part in the event, while filmmakers Farah Khan and Vishal Bhardwaj along with sports personalities Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Sania Mirza, also participated.
Besides singing and poetry reading, the celebrities addressed various issues, including the predicament of migrant workers, the struggles of daily wage earners, child abuse and domestic violence among others. They also encouraged the audience to treat stray animals affectionately and develop eco-friendly habits, going forward.
All proceeds from the fundraiser concert will go to the India COVID Response Fund, managed by GiveIndia, to support on-ground relief.
