Every year, International Council of Museums (ICOM) selects a theme to observe the International Museum Day. This year’s theme was ‘Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition’. On this occasion, Bangladesh National Museum recently held a day-long programme, featuring a rally, essay competition, magazine launching, and more.

A new gallery of weaponry was also launched during the programme. Artist Hashem Khan, Chairman, Bangladesh National Museum Board of Trusties, inaugurated the event which ended with a seminar. Dr AKM Shahnewaz, Professor, Department of Archaeology, Jahangirnagar University, was the keynote speaker of the seminar. Writer and researcher Ali Imam, Historian and one of the members of Bangladesh National Museum Board of Trusties, Dr Sonia Nishat Amin, and Scholar Munstassir Mamoon, among others, also spoke at the seminar.
