Jaya Ahsan starrer ‘Konttho’ to release in Bangladesh

Under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) agreement, celebrated actor Jaya Ahsan’s film, Konttho, will be released in Bangladesh after its release in West Bengal. The film will be distributed under Impress Telefilm and released in 10 cinema theatres on November 8.

Under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) agreement, celebrated actor Jaya Ahsan’s film, Konttho, will be released in Bangladesh after its release in West Bengal. The film will be distributed under Impress Telefilm and released in 10 cinema theatres on November 8.

Directed by  Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy, the film revolves around the struggles of Arjun Mallik, a cancer survivor. Arjun, a popular radio jockey gets diagnosed with laryngeal cancer. The disease flips his life upside down, for he loses his voice. He seeks the help of Romilla, a speech therapist, played by Jaya Ahsan.

The director, Shiboprosad Mukherjee, plays the role of Arjun.

The film is inspired by the true story of the late Bibhuti Chakraborty, a cancer patient.

“After a long wait, Konttho will be finally released in my own country. It is a matter of great joy,” said Jaya.

Aside from West Bengal, Konttho has been released in Delhi, Ahmedabad and London, among other cities.

It was selected as the Indian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Jaya recently won several awards at the Bharat-Bangladesh Film Awards.  She also completed filming Robibar in Kolkata.
