John Lennon killer apologises for 'despicable act'

Mark Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon, apologised to Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, for his actions 40 years ago.

Chapman shot Lennon four times in 1980, outside his New York apartment.

According to BBC, Chapman has gone on record making the apology to the Parole board at Wende Correctional Facility in New York.

"I have no excuse. This was for self-glory. I think it's the worst crime that there could be to do something to someone that's innocent," the killer said. 

BBC also reported that the killer said that he killed Lennon because he was "very, very, very famous" and Chapman was "very, very, very, very much seeking self-glory".

He added that he thinks about the pain he caused Lennon's family all the time.

The parole board recently rejected Chapman's release on the grounds of being "incompatibile with the welfare of society".
