Movies to watch with your mom at home
While shutdowns and restrictions are still in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus, most of us are finding ourselves in a position where we will be spending Mother's Day at home. With no decadent lunches or dinners planned or pamper sessions at the salon to look forward to, Mother's Day may feel a bit strange this year. To battle the boredom, here is a list of movies you can watch with your mom on this special day.
Generation Aami (2018)
Generation Aami, available on Hoichoi, is a Bengali coming-of-age movie. It revolves around Apu, a tenth standard student in Kolkata, and his cousin sister Durga, visiting from Delhi. Apu's parents put a lot of pressure on him to study, perform well in his board exams, join the science stream, and clear the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). The movie illuminates the anxieties surrounding the future forced upon school students by parents who are convinced that a good education is the recipe to a good life.
Shonar Pahar (2018)
Shonar Pahar, directed by Parambrata Chatterjee, revolves around Upama (Tanuja), who lives a lonely life in her huge, ancestral house, with her domestic help for company. Her relationship with her only son Soumya (Jishu Sengupta) is evidently strained and she is not too fond of her daughter-in-law either. In a chance meeting with Soumya's friend Rajdeep (Parambrata), who runs an NGO, Upama agrees to house an orphan for a few hours every day. You will hopefully give your mother a tight hug, after watching this movie! Shonar Pahar is currently available on Netflix.
Ladybird (2017)

The film, currently available on Netflix, portrays the relationship between the mother and her daughter in a believable way.
