Nawshaba starrer “Chharpotro” to have a virtual world premiere from Belgium
United Nations' 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence is observed worldwide every year from November 25 to December 10.
On the last day of this campaign, the Aporajita Sangita directorial "Chharpotro" will have an online world premiere from Belgium, arranged by Belgium Manobota Collective VZW. The short film will be available to watch online from their Facebook page and website. The film will premiere at 10 pm (Bangladesh) and 5 pm (Belgium).
Renowned actor Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed stars in "Chharpotro", with Joyeeta Moholanobish, Nafis Ahmed, Babar Ali, and Bulu Bari among others.
"We, as artistes, are protesting against all kinds of oppression of women through this film," says Nawshaba. "The whole world is going through such challenges. We need to speak up about these issues. I am proud to be a part of this short film."
Produced by Shaatrong Media, the concept and screenplay of "Chharpotro" is also handled by the director.
"Chharpotro" tells the story of a woman who wants a divorce. She visits a lawyer, but cannot explain a valid reason as to why she wants it. The film also sheds light on the recent, horrific incidents of rape that shook the nation.
"As a human rights activist and independent filmmaker, I believe it is my responsibility to raise my voice through my work, apart from participating in other protests," says Sangita. "We must work on building a safer world for children and women."
The 23-minute short film is Sangita's third project.
Her second short film, "Revolt" (Droho), featuring Sanjida Preeti, bagged eight awards in different categories in the Hattomela International Film Festival in Kolkata and has been previewed in many international festivals.
Sangita plans to have a screening of "Chharporto" in Bangladesh on International Women's Day 2021.
