New trailer for Tupac biopic released
A new “All Eyez on Me” trailer has been released, of the long-in-development music biopic that looks at the life of influential rapper Tupac Shakur. Judging by the trailer, the film, directed by Benny Boom, will follow a standard cradle-to-the-grave narrative. The trailer shows Tupac as a child in church all the way to his death in 1996.
While some films about rappers have struggled at the box office (2009's “Notoroious”, which was about rapper Biggie Smalls, only grossed $44 million worldwide), 2015 movie about N.W.A., “Straight Outta Compton” was a massive hit, scoring $201 million worldwide and an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. There's definitely an audience that wants to know about these influential figures, and it will be interesting to see if “All Eyez on Me” can reach them.
The film opens June 16 and stars Kat Graham, Lauren Cohan, Hill Harper, Jamal Woolard, Danai Gurira, and Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac Shakur.
Tupac Amaru Shakur, also known by his stage names 2Pac just Pac was an US rapper, record producer, actor, activist and poet, is consistently listed and ranked as one of the greatest and most influential rappers. During the latter part of his career, Shakur was a vocal participant during the East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry, becoming involved in conflicts with other rappers, producers, and record-label staff members, most notably The Notorious B.I.G. and the label Bad Boy Records. On September 7, 1996, Shakur was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting at the intersection in Las Vegas, Nevada, and died six days later, at the age of 25.
Tupac was indicted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame this year (in a ceremony this morning Bangladesh time), in the first year of eligibility.
